"Patriot Games" scripter Peter Iliff is to write and direct "Point Break 2," a 20 years later sequel to the surfing crime thriller that he co-wrote in 1987 and was a hit for Largo Entertainment in 1991, reports Variety.

New pic will be set in Southeast Asia and uncover the fate of the surfers' leader Bodhi who was supposedly killed by a giant wave. Action follows a surfer-turned-SEAL on the trail of a criminal gang. Locations being scouted include Indonesia and Singapore.

Pic is being set up by Singapore-Australian talent management and production firm RGM Entertainment as a $20 million-$30 million independent production. Finance will come largely from Asian sources representing a combo of RGM's own equity, pre-sales and soft money available in increasingly generous Singapore.

Production schedule sees lensing starting by the end of current year with delivery for late 2008. RGM's CEO Devesh Chetty said casting will include English-language and Asian male leads and Asian female love interest.

"It is really important that this film stands on its own two feet and we will be looking for a young male action star at the same stage in his career as Keanu (Reeves) was," Chetty said.

RGM is also co-financing Forest Whitaker, Jennifer Hudson starrer "Winged Creatures" by its helming client Rowan Woods, Sigourney Weaver drama "The Girl in the Park" and upcoming "Pushing up Daisies." But "Point Break 2" is by far the biggest pic to date where it has control of the production. Project was brought to RGM by Chris Taylor, who has since been appointed company chief operating officer.

Arretez merde ! J'avais ecrit un synopsis il y a des années pour un PB 2, et il y avait Utha devenu chasseur de prime freelance, et Boghy qui était vivant et vivant dans un monastère dans les andes, le méchant était Anthony Kiedis des Red Hot, devenu estropié suite à son accident de balle dans le pied du premier et il dirigeait un groupuscule térroriste pseudo écologique dans le bbut d'éradiquer les humains de la terre. Utha recevait des mails mysterieux d'un type qui au final n'était autre que Bodhy et qui était le seul à être capable d'arreter ces tarés. Il y avait des poursuites en Snow, en surf en Skate et pleins de trucs extremes de bouffons. Une vrai suite bien débile et aussi des sandwitchs aux boulettes.

C'est "Brice de Nice" qui va être content.
Pourquoi toujours faire des suites et encore des suites???

RGM Entertainment and Essential Entertainment will exec produce this Asia-based follow-up to director Kathryn Bigelow's original, which starred de Bont's "Speed" lead Keanu Reeves as an FBI agent casing a gang of surfer bank robbers. The new film will take place 20 years after the disappearance of one of the criminal surfers (Patrick Swayze).

Both the original and sequel are written by W. Peter Iliff. Plot details and possible character reprises have not been disclosed, but the film will shoot in Singapore and Southeast Asia.

Taylor Morgan Pictures' Chris Taylor and John Morgan will produce. RGM's Devesh Chetty, Essential's Jere Hausfater and Neil Kaplan, and the Paradigm-repped de Bont will executive produce.
